The commonwealth is the voluntary association of 54 countries that support each other and work together towards shared goals in democracy and development. They are countries mainly of the former British empire and colonies with the exception of Mozambique and Rwanda with no historical link to the commonwealth.

The commonwealth is home to two billion citizens of all faiths and ethnicities and includes some of the world's largest, smallest, richest and poorest countries with the Queen as the Head and Headquarters in London. Over half of its citizens are 25 or under and member countries come from six regions : Africa (19); Asia (8); the Americas (3); Europe (3); and the South Pacific (11).

The Commonwealth Africa Network is part of the Commonwealth family of non governmental organizations that link people from these 19 Africa countries living in diaspora particularly in the United Kingdom to explore and learn from their different yet related experiences.

As a grass-root network we value citizen to citizen link as much as contact between member countries to work together in a spirit of co-operation, partnership and understanding. We promote and support trade, tourism and development in Africa and encourages our members to invest back in Africa.

The History of Commonwealth recognized our shared heritage and cultural diversification. Commonwealth countries are not considered to be foreign to each other, that is the reason they exchange High commissioners instead of ambassadors.

When engaging bilaterally with one another, commonwealth countries are expected to treat resident citizens of other Commonwealth countries preferentially to citizens of non-Commonwealth countries. Britain and several others grant the right to vote to commonwealth citizen who reside in those countries.

We are managed by a board of trustees and are governed by our Constitution. Our management team includes a Director, Programme Coordinator, Project/Welfare Officer, Secretary and a Financial Officer, and at least 2 volunteers at any given time. Commonwealth Africa Network is funded by charitable donation and grants.
